Al-Zarkashi was a fourteenth century Islamic scholar who resided mainly in Mamluk era Cairo. He specialized in law, hadith, history, and Shafi'i legal jurisprudence, and left behind some thirty compendia, most now lost apart from their titles. His best known surviving work is al-Burhan fi Ulum al-Qur'an, a manual of Quranic sciences.
