Al-Sharani, in full Abd al-Wahhab ibn Ahmad al-Sharani, was a highly influential Egyptian scholar of the sixteenth century. He was an eminent jurist, hadith traditionist, historian, mystic, and theologian, regarded as one of the Islamic revivalists and scholastic saints of his century, and founded an Egyptian Sufi order known as the Sharawiyyah.
