Abd al-Jabbar ibn Ahmad, known as al-Qadi Abd al-Jabbar (935-1025), was a Persian theologian and jurist of the Shafii school who belonged to the Mutazilite theological tradition and served as chief qadi in Rayy under the Buyid governor Sahib ibn Abbad. His major work, the twenty-volume Kitab al-Mughni, addresses the oneness and justice of God and is considered a comprehensive summa of Mutazilite theology. He authored more than seventy books and had considerable influence on later Islamic scholarship.
