Al-Mahalli (about 1389 to 1460) was an Egyptian Sunni scholar, a towering jurist of the Shafi'i school, a legal theoretician, Quranic commentator, grammarian, theologian, and logician. His most important works include Tafsir al-Jalalayn and Kanz al-Raghibin, an explanation of al-Nawawi's Minhaj al-Talibin, a classical manual of Shafi'i Islamic law.
