Al-Juwayni, known by the honorific Imam al-Haramayn and in full Dhia al-Din Abd al-Malik ibn Yusuf al-Juwayni al-Shafii, was an eleventh-century Iranian Sunni scholar famed as the foremost jurisconsult, legal theoretician, and theologian of his time. Working within the Shafii school of jurisprudence, chiefly in Nishapur and the Hejaz, he is considered the schools virtual second founder after al-Shafii himself.
