Akua Kuenyehia, born in 1947 in Ghana, is a Ghanaian academic and lawyer educated at Achimota School, the University of Ghana and Somerville College, Oxford, where she later became an Honorary Fellow. She served as Dean of Law at the University of Ghana, as a visiting professor at Leiden University and Temple University, as President of Mountcrest University College, and represented Ghana on the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women committee. She was a judge of the International Criminal Court from 2003 to 2015, one of three female African judges on the Court, and served as First Vice-President from 2003 to 2009; the University of Ghana's law faculty building at Legon was named jointly in honor of President John Atta Mills and Kuenyehia.
