Abu al-Tayyib al-Tabari was an Iranian jurisconsult and professor of legal sciences who served as chief judge in Baghdad. His peers regarded him as one of the greatest Shafii jurists of the eleventh century, and he was also a traditionist, a linguist and a poet.
