Abu al-Hasan al-Qabisi, full name Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-Maafiri al-Qabisi, lived from 935 to 1012 and was a leading Ifriqiyan scholar of usul, the methodology of Islamic jurisprudence, in the Maliki school. In 996 he succeeded his cousin Ibn Abi Zayd as leader, or shaykh, of the Maliki school in Kairouan.
