Ioannis Ktistakis

Ioannis Ktistakis is a Greek jurist born on 3 January 1971 in Thebes. He earned a law degree from Democritus University of Thrace in 1993, a masters in political science from the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg in 1995, a masters in legal theory from the European Academy of Legal Theory in Brussels in 1996, and a doctorate in law from the University of Athens in 2003, holding academic posts as associate professor of public international law at Democritus University of Thrace, assistant professor at Bogazici University in Istanbul, and visiting professor at George Washington Law. He practiced as a lawyer before the Court of Cassation and the Council of State from 2004 to 2021 and served as chief legal counsel to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul. He was elected Greeces judge at the European Court of Human Rights for a nine-year term and has served since 8 March 2021, becoming President of Section on 1 November 2024.
