Wolfgang Schomburg

Wolfgang Schomburg is a German judge, born April 9, 1948, in Berlin. He served as a judge of Germany's Federal Court of Justice from 1995 to 2000, then became the first German judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, sitting there from 2001 to 2007 while also serving as a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in the same period. In 2007 he left the ICTY Appeals Chamber, citing concerns that a defendant's right to a fair trial had been compromised when the defendant was allowed to represent himself without legal counsel.
