Appeals courts of Albania

The appeals courts of Albania, known in Albanian as Gjykatat e Apelit, are the intermediate appellate tribunals of the Albanian judicial system, reviewing cases decided by the lower district courts on appeal; each case is heard by a panel of three judges, and their decisions may be further appealed to the Supreme Court of Albania. Before a recent restructuring, Albania maintained seven regional appeals courts, seated in Durres, Gjirokaster, Korce, Shkoder, Tirane and Vlore, plus a specialized court of second instance with nationwide jurisdiction over serious criminal cases. Albanias High Judicial Council has since consolidated the regional courts into a single national appeals court with jurisdiction over the entire country.
