Kentucky Court of Appeals

The Kentucky Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court within a two-tier appellate system in Kentucky, sitting below the Kentucky Supreme Court. It was formally established in 1792 and served as the highest court in Kentucky until a 1975 constitutional amendment restructured the state judiciary; on 1 January 1976 it became the intermediate appellate court once the Kentucky Supreme Court was created as the new court of last resort. It hears appeals from the circuit courts of the state, with certain serious criminal cases going directly to the Supreme Court instead.
