Missouri Court of Appeals

The Missouri Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court for the state of Missouri, handling most appeals from the Missouri circuit courts. It is divided into three geographic districts, Eastern (based in St. Louis), Western (based in Kansas City), and Southern (based in Springfield), so that, for example, appeals from St. Louis County go to the Eastern District and appeals from Jackson County go to the Western District. After a case is decided, the losing party may accept the result or appeal further to the Supreme Court of Missouri, which may exercise discretionary jurisdiction to accept or reject such appeals; historically fewer than ten percent of Court of Appeals cases are transferred to the Supreme Court, making the Court of Appeals decision final in the vast majority of appeals.
