Iberian and Roman-Dutch Law Scholars gathers the jurists of the Spanish and Portuguese civilian traditions and of Roman-Dutch law, the civil law system that developed in the Netherlands before its own later civil code and that Dutch colonial expansion carried to South Africa, Sri Lanka and other former Dutch colonial territories, where it still forms the basis of the civil law in some of them today. Grouped together here because Roman-Dutch law is itself a direct descendant of the same Iberian and Low Countries civilian scholarship, distinct from the French and German codification traditions grouped elsewhere in this subcategory.
