African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights Judges gathers the judges of the African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, the Arusha, Tanzania based tribunal established under a protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights to complement the protective mandate of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. Eleven judges sit at a time, elected by the Assembly of the African Union for six year terms renewable once, and the court hears cases referred by the Commission, by African Union member states, and, for states that have made the necessary declaration, directly from individuals and non-governmental organizations, giving it jurisdiction over alleged violations of the African Charter and other African Union human rights instruments.
