Juror misconduct occurs when the law of the court is violated by a member of the jury while a court case is in progress or after it has reached a verdict. Misconduct can take several forms. One is communication by jurors with people outside the trial, such as witnesses, attorneys, bailiffs or judges, about the case. Another is a juror bringing into the trial outside evidence that the juror found personally and that the judges or lawyers have not allowed, which can create bias and be used to influence the final decision. A third is conducting experiments regarding theories of the case outside the presence of the court.
