An interlocutory injunction is a court order that either compels a party to do certain acts or prevents a party from doing them, pending the final determination of the case. It is made at an interim stage during the trial, not at its end, and it is usually issued to maintain the status quo until the court is able to reach a judgment. In this way the parties are held in their existing positions while the dispute is still being decided, and the order lasts only until that final determination is made.
