The Supreme Court of Rwanda is the highest court of the land, and its territorial jurisdiction covers the entire territory of the Republic of Rwanda. It stands at the top of the ordinary courts, which also include the Court of Appeal, the High Court with its five chambers, the intermediate courts and the primary courts. The court is placed under the authority of its Chief Justice, who in October 2026 is Domitilla Mukantaganzwa. Its essential mission is to ensure equitable enforcement of the law in keeping with the complementarity of powers in a democratic society, and it treats the judicial power as part of social life rather than an entity separate from it.
