The Supreme Court of Mongolia is the highest judicial organ of the State and the court of last resort. A decision of the Cabinet on 24 December 1926 established the court to begin its work on 1 January 1927, and the Presidium of the State Baga Khural acknowledged its establishment on 7 January 1927. The 1992 Constitution recognized an independent court as the only institution exercising judicial power, and the Law on Courts of 1993, renewed in 2002, set the modern structure of the judiciary. The court is comprised of a Chief Justice and 16 Justices, and it exercises its jurisdiction through three chambers, for criminal, civil and administrative cases, whose main duty is to adjudicate cases and to give professional guidance to judges.
