The Supreme Court of Justice of Panama exercises its jurisdiction throughout the territory of the Republic and has its seat in Panama City. For serious reasons of public order it may move its seat to another place in the national territory after giving notice to the Executive Branch, as article 69 of the Judicial Code provides. Under article 70 of the Judicial Code the court is made up of nine magistrates elected as the Political Constitution directs. They sit in chambers, the First Chamber for civil matters, the Second Chamber for criminal matters and the Third Chamber for contentious administrative and labor matters. Maria Cristina Chen Stanziola presides over the court, with Olmedo Arrocha Osorio as vice president.
