The Supreme Court of Justice of Cabo Verde, the Supremo Tribunal de Justiça, is under article 229 of the Constitution the supreme body in the hierarchy of courts, with jurisdiction over all the national territory and its seat in the city of Praia. Article 230 gives it a minimum of five judges, among them one judge appointed by the President of the Republic, one elected by the National Assembly, and others designated by the Superior Council of Magistrates. The President of the Republic appoints its President from among the judges of the court after consulting the Superior Council of Magistrates. Benfeito Mosso Ramos has presided since 10 November 2022. The World Factbook archive describes a chief justice and at least seven judges, organized into civil, criminal and administrative sections.
