Supreme Court of Honduras

Supreme and Highest Courts of Last Resort

The Supreme Court of Justice of Honduras is the highest judicial body of the state. Its jurisdiction covers the entire national territory and it has its seat in the capital, though it may temporarily change its seat to any other part of the territory when it decides to. It is composed of fifteen justices, who are elected by the National Congress with the favorable vote of two thirds of its total membership, from a pool of at least three candidates for each justice to be elected. A justice must be Honduran by birth, and the spouses and relatives of certain officials within the fourth degree of blood or second of marriage may not be elected. The judicial branch also includes the Courts of Appeals and the lower courts.
