The High Court of Justice is, with the Court of Appeal, one of the two courts that make up the Senior Courts of Belize, established by section 94 of the Constitution as replaced by the Belize Constitution (Tenth Amendment) Act 2022. The Chief Justice is head of the Senior Courts and of the judiciary, and the justices of the High Court are the Chief Justice, two Senior High Court Justices and such other justices as the National Assembly prescribes. The court hears serious civil and criminal cases before judges and jury. It took over the place of the Supreme Court of Belize: the 2022 amendment substituted the term High Court for Supreme Court throughout the Constitution, and the Senior Courts Act 2022 reads every earlier reference to the Supreme Court as a reference to the High Court.
