The Council of Twelve of San Marino, the Consiglio dei XII, is the body through which the judicial power of the Republic is administered, and it also acts as judge of third instance where the sentences of the earlier instances differ and as the court of last instance in administrative justice, above the first-degree and appeal administrative judges. It is presided over by the Captains Regent, and its members are chosen and elected from within the Grand and General Council. The World Factbook archive describes twelve members elected by the Grand and General Council from among its own for five year terms.
