The Council of State is the supreme administrative court of Greece, called the Supreme Administrative Court in the English text of the Constitution. Its jurisdiction rests mainly on annulling enforceable acts of administrative authorities for excess of power or violation of the law, reversing final judgments of the ordinary administrative courts, trying substantive administrative disputes and elaborating decrees of a general regulatory nature. The Public Administration is bound to comply with its decisions. Its president serves a tenure of at most four years and, together with the presidents of the Supreme Civil and Criminal Court and the Court of Audit, may be entrusted with forming a caretaker cabinet. Katerina Sakellaropoulou was its first woman president.
