Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic

Constitutional Courts

The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic is the supreme constitutional court in the Czech Republic and sits in Brno. The Constitution charges it with protection of constitutional rule, and its primary and appellate jurisdiction is to review and rule on questions of constitutionality. It is also the only venue for impeachment proceedings brought by Parliament against the president, and it can invalidate laws enacted by Parliament. Its decisions are final and can be overturned only by amending the constitution. The court itself was established in 1993, though its Czechoslovak predecessor was already provided for in the Constitution of 1920.
