Constitutional Court of Niger

Constitutional Courts

The Constitutional Court of Niger includes seven members who must be aged at least forty years. The Constitution gives it a central part in the life of the presidency: the President of the Republic takes the oath on the Holy Book of his confession before the Constitutional Court, in the presence of the members of the National Assembly. The court declares the absolute impediment of the President of the Republic and pronounces the vacancy when the National Assembly refers the matter to it, deciding by a majority of two thirds of its members. In an election dispute it decides within eight days when the matter is referred by the Prime Minister, the President of the National Assembly or one tenth of the members of the National Assembly.
