The Constitutional Court of Armenia is the country's body of constitutional justice, separate from the Court of Cassation and the ordinary courts. Nine judges sit on it, elected by the National Assembly for a single twelve-year term, with three nominated by the President of the Republic, three by the Government and three by the General Assembly of Judges. It rules on whether laws, acts of the President and Government and international obligations conform to the Constitution, settles disputes between constitutional bodies, decides referendum and election disputes, and hears individual constitutional complaints. Its decisions are final and bind every state body. It began work in February 1996 under the 1995 Constitution and sits in Yerevan.
