Centumviral court

The centumviral court, or centumviri, was a court of ancient Rome dealing with private law, its name derived from the Latin for one hundred men, the approximate original size of the panel from which its members were drawn. Membership grew from roughly 100 in the Republic to 105 and eventually 180 during the Imperial period, and the court handled matters involving wills, inheritance and property disputes, becoming a notable venue where orators including Cicero, Tacitus and Pliny the Younger practiced.
