Supreme Court of Iran

National Supreme Courts (Last Resort)

The Supreme Court of Iran, known in Persian as the Divan-e Ali-ye Keshvar, is the highest juridical authority in Iran, established to supervise the correct implementation of laws by the country's courts of justice and staffed by some of its most prominent judges. The head of the judiciary sets the criteria used to ensure uniform judicial procedure and to carry out the Court's legal responsibilities, which under Article 161 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran include hearing offenses committed by the head of the executive. The Court's General Board can issue a vote of judicial precedent that carries the status of law, and its judiciary branches hear complaints against lower court decisions; parties to a case do not appear before the Court unless specifically cited for explanation, and its rulings take the form of annulment or confirmation of lower court decisions.
