Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt

The Supreme Constitutional Court is an independent judicial body located in the Cairo suburb of Maadi and is the highest judicial authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Its primary function is to ensure that laws comply with the provisions of the Egyptian Constitution, and it has the power to annul any law found to violate constitutional texts and articles. Operating separately from the legislative and executive branches, the court is composed of a president, one or more vice presidents, and a sufficient number of counselors; rulings are issued by a panel of seven counselors and are final, not subject to being contested by any means. The court also determines the appropriate jurisdiction in cases of conflict between governmental authorities, where the dispute must arise between two judicial bodies from two definitive but contradictory judgments issued by functionally independent courts. Hanafy El Gebaly and Saeed Marie each served as chief justice of this court, Marie from 2019 to 2022.
