Ranbir Penal Code

The Ranbir Penal Code was the primary criminal code of the former Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, named for Maharaja Ranbir Singh and in force from 1932. It was drafted along the lines of the Indian Penal Code written by Thomas Babington Macaulay, but applied in place of that code because of the special constitutional status Jammu and Kashmir held under Article 370. The Ranbir Penal Code was repealed and replaced by the Indian Penal Code when Article 370 was abrogated by the Indian Parliament on 5 August 2019.
