The Constitution of the Central African Republic was approved by referendum on 15 December 2015 and formally adopted on 27 March 2016. Since independence in 1960 the country has cycled through more than a dozen constitutional documents amid repeated coups and political instability, and the 2016 text is the most recent one whose adoption process is well documented from its own lead source; a fuller account of its provisions and of any later constitutional change is left to a depth pass.
