The Civil Code of the Philippines is the general law governing family and property relations in the Philippines, a codification of the country's private law. It was enacted by Congress as Republic Act No. 386 on June 18, 1949 and took effect on August 30, 1950. Running to more than 2,000 provisions, it attempts to comprehensively address disputes between private individuals over civil and property matters, and while it remains in force today, it has been significantly amended since it was first enacted.
