Carl Johan Schlyter (1795 to 1888) was a Swedish jurist and law publisher known for compiling scholarly editions of the medieval Swedish provincial laws into the thirteen volume Corpus Juris Sueo-Gotorum Antiqui, a project he began with Hans Samuel Collin in 1822 and completed alone in 1877. He took permanent leave from his university professorship between 1852 and 1876 to finish the work, which he considered too important to risk leaving unfinished in less capable hands.

What was special about the first volume of Schlyter's edition of the old Swedish laws?
It carried a manuscript stemma that was potentially the first of its kind.
The first volume, the Vestgötalagen, was published in 1827 by Schlyter together with Hans Samuel Collin. It came with a stemma of the manuscripts, a diagram of how the surviving manuscripts relate to one another, and the source says this was potentially the first stemma ever produced.
