Civil Code of Spain

The Civil Code of Spain, formally the Royal Decree of 24 July 1889, is the law governing the major areas of Spanish civil law, covering persons, property, the modification of property rights, and obligations and contracts. It was among the last civil codes adopted in continental Europe, its enactment delayed by the political, religious and territorial conflicts of nineteenth century Spain, and it remains in force today after numerous subsequent amendments.
