All Roman Jurists (Classical)

Roman Jurists (Classical) gathers the jurists of the classical era of Roman law, roughly the late Roman Republic through the third century CE, whose legal opinions, commentaries and teaching built the body of doctrine that later Roman compilers, above all the Byzantine emperor Justinian's own jurists grouped elsewhere in this subcategory, drew on to compile the Corpus Juris Civilis. Its members include Gaius, Papinian, Ulpian and the other jurists whose writings the later Roman law of citations named as authoritative, alongside the Republican era statesman-jurists whose legal opinions predate the classical period's own formal juristic profession.
