Edict of Ammisaduqa

The Edict of Ammisaduqa was issued around 1646 to 1626 BC by Ammisaduqa, a ruler of the Old Babylonian dynasty, and granted tax and debt relief to certain groups in a number of selected places across the kingdom, in the tradition of Old Babylonian royal edicts of economic remission that also produced the earlier Code of Hammurabi. Its coverage extended even to some non-Babylonian cities; at the city of Mankisum, for example, the edict's relief measures applied only to markets, a narrower application than elsewhere, and the edict provides the last attested written reference to Mankisum in the historical record.
