The Commonwealth Industrial Court was an Australian specialist court established in 1956 to handle industrial disputes, primarily by enforcing the awards and orders of the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission; it was renamed the Australian Industrial Court in 1973. Over its two decades its responsibilities expanded to include trade practices enforcement, administrative appeals and other judicial functions. It ceased operating in 1977 when it was absorbed into the newly established Federal Court of Australia, though its last judge did not retire until 1998 and the court itself was not formally abolished until 2004.
