The Court of Historical Review is a mock court in San Francisco, California, convened at irregular intervals over several decades to argue and decide questions of historical curiosity. It has been presided over by a number of actual or retired judges, including U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Hanlon and San Francisco Municipal Court Judge George T. Choppelas, and cases have been argued by notable attorneys and civic figures, sometimes appearing in character as historical figures themselves. Its judgment is purely symbolic and carries no legal or academic authority, but its sessions on subjects such as the origins of fortune cookies and Shoeless Joe Jacksons role in the Black Sox Scandal have been widely reported.
