Kentucky District Courts

The Kentucky District Courts are the states trial courts of limited jurisdiction, hearing misdemeanor criminal matters, traffic violations, municipal and county ordinance violations, and small claims disputes, and sharing jurisdiction with the Circuit Courts family division over domestic violence, parentage, family support, child welfare and juvenile status matters. Kentucky organizes its district courts into 59 districts, each covering one or more counties; decisions advance on appeal to the corresponding Circuit Court, and from there, on a discretionary basis, to the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Kentucky Supreme Court.
