Circuit Court of Cook County

The Circuit Court of Cook County is the largest of Illinois' 25 circuit courts and one of the largest unified court systems in the United States. A 1964 constitutional amendment consolidated 161 previously separate municipal and specialized courts into this single institution, which processes more than 2.4 million cases a year across County, Municipal and Juvenile Justice and Child Protection departments. As of 2014 it had 402 judges, including 257 circuit judges elected to six-year terms countywide or from 15 residential subcircuits, plus 145 associate judges, operating from several courthouses with the Richard J.
