Alabama Court of the Judiciary

The Alabama Court of the Judiciary is a specialized tribunal within Alabama's judicial branch with the power to try judicial officers in the state's other courts and to punish them for violating judicial ethics, misconduct, dereliction of duty or incapacity. It convenes to hear complaints brought by Alabama's Judicial Inquiry Commission and is composed of nine members: an appellate judge who serves as chief judge, chosen by the Supreme Court; two circuit judges and one district judge chosen by the District Judges' Association; two members of the Alabama State Bar; and three nonlegal members appointed by the Governor with Senate confirmation, though before 2005 the Lieutenant Governor appointed one of the nonlegal members. A judge found against by the Court of the Judiciary may appeal to the Supreme Court of Alabama.
