Social security tribunal

A social security tribunal, as constituted in France, is a civil court that rules on disputes between social security funds and users, for example over fund membership or the award and payment of benefits. Each tribunal is presided over by a judge from the regional court, sitting with non-professional assessors appointed for three-year terms from candidates nominated by representative trade and professional organizations and selected by the first president of the Court of Appeal. France maintains 115 such tribunals throughout the country.
