Hawaii's state district courts sit below the circuit courts in the state's judicial system and hear civil cases up to $25,000, with exclusive jurisdiction under $10,000, along with small claims capped at $3,500 through the court's Small Claims Division, whose decisions are final and cannot be appealed. They have exclusive jurisdiction over traffic infractions and most landlord-tenant disputes, including eviction cases regardless of the amount claimed, and they handle misdemeanors punishable by no more than a year's imprisonment or a fine, county ordinance violations, and petitions for restraining orders or harassment injunctions.
