Alain Pellet

Alain Pellet, born in 1947 in Paris, is a French legal scholar specializing in public international law. He has taught at Paris Nanterre University, where he directed the Centre de Droit International from 1991 to 2001, and he is now professor emeritus there. He has served as counsel in more than thirty five cases before the International Court of Justice, was a member and former president of the United Nations International Law Commission, and contributed to bodies including the Badinter Arbitration Committee and the French commission that helped establish the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. He represented Russia in disputes with Ukraine following the 2014 annexation of Crimea but resigned from that role after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
