Leila Nadya Sadat

Leila Nadya Sadat is an international law scholar born in Newark, New Jersey, who holds the James Carr Professorship in International Criminal Law at Washington University School of Law and directs its Crimes Against Humanity Initiative, which works toward a global convention on crimes against humanity. Since December 2012 she has served as Special Adviser on Crimes Against Humanity to International Criminal Court Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, and she has directed the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute and served as a commissioner of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom from 2001 to 2003. She was elected President of the American Branch of the International Law Association in 2018 and serves as Vice President of the International Association of Penal Law.
