Giovanni da Legnano (about 1320 to 1383) was an Italian canon lawyer and jurist who taught at the University of Bologna. He is best known for De Bello, a treatise on warfare and dueling recognized as an early source of international law, and he also wrote on peace and church property law. He served as governor of Bologna and was the leading defender of Pope Urban VI at the outbreak of the Western Schism.
