Oona A. Hathaway, born in 1972, is an American legal scholar and the Gerard C. and Bernice Latrobe Smith Professor of International Law at Yale Law School, where she also directs the Center for Global Legal Challenges and holds appointments in the Department of Political Science and the Jackson School of Global Affairs. Her scholarship examines the intersection of domestic and international legal systems, with a focus on the law of armed conflict, treaty law and executive authority in matters of war powers. She co-authored the 2017 book The Internationalists, How a Radical Plan to Outlaw War Remade the World, with Scott J. Shapiro, and in 2025 she was named president-elect of the American Society of International Law and elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
