Domingo de Soto

Natural Law and International Law Founders

Domingo de Soto lived from 1494 to 15 November 1560 and was a Spanish Dominican priest, Scholastic theologian and naturalist, born in Segovia and dying in Salamanca. He is best known as one of the founders of international law and of the Spanish Thomistic philosophical and theological movement known as the School of Salamanca. He also contributed to mechanical physics: his works on mechanics and gravity, presented in his 1551 book Physicorum Aristotelis quaestiones, served as a basis for the later studies of Galileo and Isaac Newton.
